Many are acquainted with the excellent therapeutic effects of activated charcoal in cases of human diarrhea. It also works for animals, domestic or wild, from canaries to camels, including cases of dog diarrhea.
We received an email from Shelayne in 2015, which stated:
“Hi, I’m a firm believer in activated charcoal. We just cured our dog of bad diarrhea with Charcoal and I believe any stomach problems can be cured with Charcoal.”
Our Vet Dtox formula is a high quality activated charcoal that is used in animal feeds as an antidote for poisoning, as well as to control diarrhea, which is often a result of food poisoning. Activated charcoal is also proven to increase longevity in animals.
For cases of dog diarrhea, the suggested dose is 3-10grams. Approx. 1 Tablespoon per 30 lbs body weight
One must be careful not to administer charcoal at the same time as prescription drugs as the drug medication could be rendered useless. Instead, administer the activated charcoal either two hours before or after.
Those of you in parts of the world where activated charcoal is not readily available may use plain charcoal. It will have a similar effect although it is not as fast acting as the activated version. Here is a video tutorial of how to make your own charcoal.
